Veterans to be honored with picnic.

Bedford County Veterans Appreciation picnic will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 30 at the Bedford American Legion.

Life Chain set for Oct. 2.

Annual Bedford County Life Chain will take place Oct. 2 from 2:30 to 3:30 pm. Signs may be picked up at the Bedford Elementary School parking lot beginning at 2 p.m. The Life Chain will stretch along Business Route 220 from the elementary school to St. Thomas Catholic Church at the corner of Penn and Richard streets. Life Chain is a peaceful and prayerful public witness of pro-life Americans standing in honor of 63 million lives lost to abortion, organizers said. Family Hospice, part of UPMC, is offering free grief support sessions at the UPMC Home Healthcare/Family Hospice office, 227 Hospital Dr., Suite 2, Everett (rear of Pennwood Family Medicine). Sessions will be held on Thursdays, Sept. 29 through Nov. 3, from 2 to 3 p.m. During group sessions, attendees can share their feelings with others who are grieving. All participants are required to wear masks; there are no exceptions, and social distancing will be implemented. Space is limited. Interactive murder mystery to be staged.

“Marriage Can Be Murder” will be staged by Off Pitt Street Theater at 7 p.m. Sept. 30 at the Weaverling House, located at 14257 Lincoln Highway, Everett. Guests can purchase tickets or book a weekend package which includes overnight lodging for two nights at the house and tickets to the murder mystery. Guests will mingle with characters, play games, and take challenges to win better clues. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served. There will also be a cash bar. Prizes will be awarded to the first three guests to identify the murderer and the motive. The Central Pennsylvania Ragtime & American Music Festival returns to the area Sept. 22-25 with concerts in Huntingdon, Rockhill and Orbisonia, and special programs presented in partnership with the East Broad Top Railroad and Rockhill Trolley Museum. The lineup features pianists Frederick Hodges, Adam Swanson, Brian Holland, Martin Spitznagel, Richard Dowling, Bryan Wright, drummer Danny Coots, and the Peacherine Ragtime Orchestra. The festival kicks off with a concert Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. at the Huntingdon County Arts Council’s 12th Street Church, 313 12th Street, Huntingdon. Free performances will be presented at the East Broad Top Railroad in Rockhill Sept. 23-25. There also will be a free 2 p.m. concert Sept. 23 at the Orbisonia Presbyterian Church, followed by a Jazz Age social reception at the Rockhill Trolley Museum at 5 p.m. Trolley rides will be offered as musicians perform in the festival tent. Events on Sept. 23 will conclude with a 7:30 p.m. Silent Movies Under the Stars event the East Broad Top station. Events on Sept. 24 will include a concert at 2 p.m., as well as the Broad Top Ball Dinner Train at 5 p.m., at the East Broad Top Railroad. The festival concludes Sept. 25 with a performance by the Peacherine Ragtime Orchestra at 2:30 p.m. Tickets range from $20 to $80 for each individual event, with an all festival pass costing $250.
